Falta de conhecimento | Lack of knowledge
A organização não governamental PDSA, no estudo Animal Wellbeing 2018, concluiu que a falta de conhecimento dos tutores é a principal causa de problemas de bem estar que afectam os animais de companhia actualmente.
The non-governmental organization PDSA, in the Animal Wellbeing 2018 study, concluded that lack of tutors’ knowledge is the main cause of welfare problems currently affecting pets.

TODOS os donos de cães deveriam ter conhecimentos básicos sobre comportamento canino.
Esta escala mostra alguns sinais que os cães dão ao comunicarem entre eles e connosco. Os iniciais mostram desconforto perante uma determinada situação e vão escalando até ao momento em que o cão morde.
Um dono atento deverá detectar os primeiros sinais e retirar o cão da situação que está a causar stress, nunca permitindo que chegue ao ponto de rosnar, “bicar” ou morder.
É importante também algum discernimento ao ler estes sinais, um cão pode bocejar porque acabou de acordar, ou virar as costas porque simplesmente lhe apetece. Avalie cada situação!
Estes sinais podem ser demonstrados em todas as situações, desde interacção com outros cães, outros animais, humanos bebés, crianças e adultos.
ESTEJA ATENTO. Evite e previna os acidentes.

ALL dog owners should have basic knowledge about dog behavior.
This scale shows some signs that dogs give when communicating between them and with us. The initials show discomfort in a particular situation and escalate until the moment the dog bites.
An attentive owner should detect the first signs and remove the dog from the stressful situation, never allowing it to grow to the point of growling, pecking or biting.
Also important is some insight in reading these signs, a dog may yawn because he has just woken up, or turn his back because he simply feels like it. Evaluate every situation!
These signs can be demonstrated in all situations, from interaction with other dogs, other animals, human babies, children and adults.
BE AWARE. Avoid and prevent accidents.

Existem diferentes tipos de supervisão na interacção entre cães e bebés. Só poderemos considerar eficazes as duas ultimas da lista: pró-activa e Activa.
Lembre-se que os acidentes acontecem e não só aos outros, e que amar é cuidar.
