O snuffle mat é um tapete utilizado para que o seu cão use o nariz para encontrar comida, pode utilizar-se bolinhas de ração, biscoitos ou bocadinhos de carne desidratada e fruta para os fãs de alimentação natural.
É importante estimular o “trabalho de nariz” do seu cão porque o “snuffling” faz parte da sua natureza, desenvolvido para cheirar, farejar, pistar, caçar… Afinal o nariz do cão tem cerca de 300 milhões de receptores olfactivos!
É uma forma de estimulação mental, obrigando-o a “trabalhar” para obter a sua comida, mantendo o cão activo cansando-o (sim! Os cães ficam bastante cansados ao utilizar o nariz! Um cansaço diferente daquele que conseguimos após 1 hora de passeio, mas igualmente eficaz!)
Como utilizar o snuffle mat ?
Numa primeira fase deixe o cão assistir enquanto atira a comida para cima do snuffle mat, a seguir enterre um pouco mais no tapete, por fim deixe que toda a comida fica “escondida” e faça-o sem o cão ver o que está a fazer.

Começamos por falar nos “KONGS” e familiares….
São um óptimo aliado para entreter os cães quando ficam sozinhos, que os estimulam física e mentalmente. Os KONG são feitos de um material muito resistente, que pode ser congelado e ir à maquina de lavar louça.
Existem outras marcas com brinquedos dispensadores de comida de óptima qualidade, como é o caso da STARMARK – Starmark Animal Behavior Center, da Zogoflex West Paw (com garantia vitalícia!!) ou Zee.Dog. Têm diferentes formas, cores e texturas, de forma a adaptar-se a todos os tipos de cães.
Este tipo de brinquedos podem (e devem) ser recheados de comida: começando num nível mais fácil por encher apenas com bolinhas de ração ou biscoitos secos ou quadradinhos de cenoura em que o cão apenas tem que rolar o brinquedo para retirar o seu conteúdo, até a preparar pastas como a que está na fotografia com salmão e iogurte que podem ser congeladas e o cão tem que trabalhar bastante mais para retirar o seu conteúdo. Desta forma o cão interage com o brinquedo durante bastante mais tempo para obter comida.
Esta também é uma boa forma de cães destruidores se concentrarem em obter a comida em vez de destruir o brinquedo.
Um cão estimulado e cansado fica mais calmo na ausência do dono.

There are other brands with toys of high quality food dispensers, as is the case of STARMARK, West Paw (with lifetime warranty !!) or Zee.Dog. They have different shapes, colors and textures, in order to adapt to all types of dogs. These types of toys can (and should) be stuffed with food: starting at an easier level by filling only with dumplings or dry cookies or carrot squares where the dog just has to roll the toy to remove its contents, until to prepare mixes like the one in the picture with salmon and yogurt that can be frozen and the dog has to work a lot more to remove its contents.
This way the dog interacts with the toy for much longer to get food. This is also a good way for destructive dogs focus on getting food instead of destroying the toy.
